A rival body to the Board of Deputies of British Jews may be established by the Anglo-Jewish Association if the present communal split in England is not healed.
Indications to this effect were seen in a decision of the Council of the Anglo-Jewish Association today to recommend to the next general meeting of the group that it alter its constitution so as to enable corporate Jewish bodies to affiliate themselves with the Association.
The importance of the work of combating anti-Semitism in England was emphasized here today with the appointment of Rev. A. Cohen, president of the Board of Deputies, as chairman of the Board’s Defense Committee, which deals with the fight against anti-Semitism. Barnett Janner, British M.P., was named chairman of the Board’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
