On India’s Independence Day, last week, Israel Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett cabled Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, saying that Israel reestablished in its ancient home as a free and independent nation, is anxious to take its rightful place in the family of Asiatic countries.

Mr. Sharett received a cable today from the Indian Foreign Ministry expressing thanks and appreciation for his message. This was interpreted in some circles as India’s semi-de facto recognition of Israel.
