Murray von Wagoner, American military government of Bavaria, this week-end extended New Year’s greetings to the Jews of this German state in a letter to Dr. Aron Ohrenstein, Chief Rabbi of Bavaria. A holiday message of greetings to the Jewish people was also released by Dr. Hans Ehard, Prime Minister of the state.

Governor Wagoner’s letter expressed the hope that the future would bring happiness and tranquility which “through intolerance and ignorance has been withheld from the Jews for so long.” Addressing himself to both the DP’s and to the German Jews, Gov. Wagoner declared: “To those of you who intend to take up a new life in your own country, I wish a safe Journey and all the blessings that are the heritage of a froe people. To those who are remaining in Bavaria, I pledge that the military government will uphold your rights and privileges at all times.”
