A formal correction of the erroneous statement last week by Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin that the original United Nations partition resolution assigned Haifa to Arab Palestine was made in Commons last night by Foreign Under-Secretary Ernest Davies.

The Under-Secretary declared that his superior “regretted the obvious error” and added that the relevant section of Mr. Bevin’s statement should have read: “This place (Haifa) was allocated to the Jews under the United Nations resolution. The Arabs did not accept this. The Jews proceeded to take it over and Iraq then cut off the oil.”
