Some 40 percent of the Jews in DP camps in Austria will be affected by the transfer July 1 of camps now operated by the International Refugee Organization to the Austrian Government, it was learned here today.
A charp decline in the daily ration of sick and aged Jews and children, who were the only ones to receive I.R.O. assistance in Austria, is expected. The 500-600 calories worth of food which the I.R.O. used to supply will not be given them by the Austrians, and the Joint Distribution Committee can only supply a portion of the extra rations. However, in the case of the very needy and tuberculoris patients the J.D.C. will fully make up the difference between the ‘Austrian rations and those formerly supplied by the I.R.O.
