1,800 Rumanian Immigrants Arrive in Israel; Some Kept in Jail Until Their Departure

Five rabbis whose communities are on the verge of liquidation arrived in Haifa yesterday aboard the liner Transylvania along with 1,800 other Rumanian immigrants. A number of the Jews were kept behind bars until a few days before the ship’s sailing.

Thirteen new settlements were established in Israel in July, including 11 immigrants’ settlements, one for youth pioneers and an experimental settlement in the Negev, it was announced here today.
