The Egyptians have again defied a U.N. Security Council resolution and the terms of the armistice agreement between Egypt and Israel by encouraging the movement of Arab Bedouins across the border to Israel in the El Auja area, an Israel Army spokesman today charged. He said the border was violated within 24 hours after the Security Council adopted a resolution calling for the mixed armistice commission to settle the matter.
Israel has lodged a new protest with the armistice body, the spokesman said. He reaffirmed that Israel was taking no action against Bedouins who cross the border legally and register their presence with the authorities, but added that a policy of “firmness and vigor” will be continued against infiltrees.
Meanwhile, it was announced today that Israel and Jordan have signed a new pact in the mixed armistice commission reaffirming the “goal of peace and amicable settlement” and barring a number of practices which have created a good deal of friction between the two states recently.
