Israel Ratifies Ten-year Treaty of Friendship with U.S. in Commerce and Navigation

The Israel Cabinet today ratified a ten-year treaty of friendship in commerce and navigation with the United States. This is the first treaty between Israel and any other country. The Israel Ambassador in Washington was instructed to sign the treaty as soon as possible.

At today’s Cabinet meeting Premier David Ben Gurion reported on his talks with high official of the U.S. Government during his stay in Washington. Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett reported at the meeting on the latest developments in connection with the drainage of the Huleh swamps as well as on the stand taken by U.N. Chief of Staff Gen. William E. Riley with regard to Egypt’s blockade of the Suez Canal to Israel-bound shipping.
