A rare thesis – a discussion of Jewish philosophy written entirely in Hebrew – has been submitted by a young woman from Israel who will be one of the 20 women to receive the Doctor of Philosophy degree from Radcliffe College at Commencement exercises tomorrow. It is the first doctoral dissertation written in Hebrew at Radcliffe College or Harvard University.
The 350 pages of Hebrew text was printed by Mrs. Sara OL Holler Wilensky on a Hebrew typewriter. A 100-page summary in English accompanied the text. Mrs. Wilensky, who was born in Safed, Israel, came to the United States four years ago to study under Dr. Harry A. Wolfson, Nathan Littauer Professor of Hebrew Literature and Philosophy. Her thesis is a philosophical discussion of the place of the work of a Mediaeval Jewish philosopher, Arama, in the system of Philo.
