Replying to a message from the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, Prime Minister Robert G. Menzies today assured the Council that the Australian Government “is pledged to the full defense of human liberties and the upholding of justice.” In its message, on the occasion of Australia’s jubilee celebration, the Council expressed appreciation of the right of free worship enjoyed by the Jews of the country.

Meanwhile, a prominent member of the Jewish community council has resigned from the British Empire Union in Australia and a number of other Jewish members of the organization have protested the publication of an anti-Zionist article in the Union’s organ, “Empire Patriot.” The article, which has created a furor among Australian Jewry, calls “political Zionism” the “greatest tragedy that has befallen humanity.”
