Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv Arrives in New York; First Visit to U.S.

A large delegation of rabbis, headed by Dr. Pinkhos Churgin, president of the Mizrachi Organization of America, today greeted Rabbi Isar Jehuda Unterman, Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, upon his arrival in New York on his first visit to the United States. He will make a special tour throughout the country in behalf of the Israel bond drive.

Rabbi Unterman, who is one of the foremost spiritual leaders of Israel, will be received by Mayor Vincent Impellitteri at City Hall tomorrow morning and will make his first public appearance at the annual convention of the Mizrachi Organization of America, which will begin its sessions in Atlantic City later in the day. Before his installation as Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv in November, 1946, Rabbi Unterman had been Chief Rabbi of Liverpool and was one of the leading members of the Supreme Rabbinical Council of England and the British Empire.
