A bill making it unlawful for educational institutions chartered by the New York State Board of Regents to accept gifts or endowments that require the the teaching of doctrines of racial supremacy was defeated in the State Senate today by three votes, after having achieved unanimous passage in the lower house of the Legislature.
The measure was killed after the New York State Catholic Welfare Committee had complained that it was an “insult” to the educational institutions of the state since it indicates that they might be willing to accept such gifts. The bill had been prepared by the Association of Colleges and Universities in cooperation with the State Education Department.
