Dr. A.s.w. Rosenbach, Noted American Jewish Historian, Dead

Dr. A.S.W. Rosenbach, for many years president of the American Jewish Historical Society and former president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University, died here last night in University Hospital after a prolonged illness. He was 75 years old.

Born in Philadelphia, he received his degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1901. He was considered one of the world’s foremost collectors of rare books and manuscripts, and was the author of numerous works on bibliography. In 1931 he gave the American Jewish Historical Society a $150,000 collection of manuscripts and letters dealing with events in the history of the Jews in the United States and Mexico. He also wrote for the Society many studies on Jewish aspects of American. He was president of Gratz College and a member of the board of governors of Dropsie College.
