The charge that the West German Government is not handling the Jewish DP’s in Germany fairly was made today by the Manchester Guardian in an article which reported the details of a German police raid on the Jewish DP camp at Foehrenwald last May.
The newspaper said that the 150 German police who raided the camp and searched the 200 Jewish men and women in it found “nothing of consequence” in the search for black market goods. It reported that in the hand-to-hand clash which resulted from the Germans’ action, the police shouted anti-Semitic taunts at the Jews. The newspaper said the raid was carried out on direct orders from the Finance Ministry and was kept secret even from the German authorities at the camp until after the police surrounded the center.
