Mizrachi University in Israel to Use English Textbooks

To assure maximum possibilities of an exchange of students with American universities, the Mizrachi’s Bar-Ilan University in Israel will use English-language textbooks for most of its courses in science and in American culture. Dr. Pinkhos Churgin, president-designate of the University, announced here today at a press conference held in connection with his departure tomorrow for Israel.

Dr. Churgin, who is going to Israel to assist in getting construction of the university started at Ramath Gan and to participate in the cornerstone laying ceremonies July 28, revealed that the college is scheduled to open at the start of the 1954-55 academic year. The initial University program will fall into four main subdivisions, he stated, Jewish studies, natural sciences, social studies and languages and literatures. The basic planning for the university, which is sponsored by the Mizrachi Organization of American, envisions the creation of a college for women at the University.
