The five day strike of Jerusalem’s municipal employees for payment of wages due last month ended tonight when Minister Israel Rokach reached an agreement with Histadrut officials representing the municipal employees’ union.

Negotiations were undertaken at the behest of Premier David Ben Gurion after Jerusalem Mayor Abraham Kariv wired him with a demand that the city’s garrison be ordered to clean the streets. The Mayor told the Premier that his health aides had warned him that the dirty streets presented an acute danger to the city.
