Agudath Israel Convention Urges Expansion of Parochial Schools

A resolution urging the expansion of the Jewish parochial school program in the United States and the establishment of schools for adult Jewish education was adopted here today at the 31st annual convention of the Agudath Israel of America.

The convention adopted the resolution as the most effective weapon to combat what was called “the appalling decline of religious observance among uneducated youth.? Rabbi Eliezer Silver of Cincinnati, president of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis, told the delegates that he noted a renaissance of religious feeling but said that “it is mostly surface-deep sentimentality.” He called for an educational program that would give “depth and profundity to religious faith.?
