Jewish “returnees” from Israel Leave Austria; Eight Detained

Most of the displaced Jews who returned here from Israel and asked the Joint Distribution Committee to assist them in obtaining permanent settlement elsewhere have already left Austria, it was learned here today. However, their destinations have not been made public.

Meanwhile, eight returnees are temporarily being detained by the Austrian authorities pending their deportation to Israel. They were part of a group which recently crossed the Austro-German frontier without the requisite documents and were arrested by the Germans who sent them back to Austria.
