The Jewish community here last night opened its campaign for the sale of Israel Bonds with subscriptions totalling $1,464,000, the largest amount ever obtained in this community at any single function. The Israel Minister to Canada, Michael Comay, opened the drive at the King Edward Hotel. Alben W. Barkley, former Vice President of the United States, was the guest speaker.

During his stay here, Mr. Comay was received by Premier Frost of Ontario and by Mayor Alan Lamport. He was also the guest speaker at a luncheon meeting sponsored by the Canada-Israel Association, at which Sir Ellsworth Flavelle was chairman, and Senator Arthur Roebuck participated in the program. Members of the diplomatic and consular corps, together with the leading Federal, Provincial and community figures, attended.
