An Israeli plane flying over Lake Tiberias this morning was brought under fire by Syrian batteries on the eastern bank of the lake, it was announced here today. The plane was not damaged.
A second policeman on the patrol boat which was shelled and fired on by Syrians on the lake yesterday died this morning. This brought the casualty toll to two dead and four wounded. Two Israeli patrol boats were fired on today, and an Israeli ground unit came to their assistance, forcing the Syrian to halt their firing. There were no casualties today.
Israeli fishermen set out on the lake today, despite the shootings. They were particularly bitter about the shelling of the patrol boats, noting that the boats had been stripped of mortars in line with instructions from the United Nations truce organization leaving them in no position to defend themselves against shellfire.
