Rumania Arrests Tenth Jew Employed by Israel Legation

SIGN UP FOR THE JTA DAILY BRIEFING

Iancu Aron Grinberg, whom the Rumanian authorities have arrested on charges of attempting to flee the country illegally, is the tenth Rumanian Jew working for the Israel legation in Bucharest to be arrested by the Rumanian authorities, it was learned here today. The Rumanian Government has demanded the recall of Daniel Laor, First Secretary of the Israel legation, on charges that he helped Grinberg by supplying him with a forged passport.

Grinberg, 27, was head of the Zionist youth organization Gordonia until it was liquidated by the Communist regime. He has been under the surveillance of the secret police for a long time and was arrested once previously, in 1949. His entire family has migrated to Israel, but the authorities had refused him permission to leave.
