Hungary Paints Rosy Picture of Jewish Communal Life

The Hungarian Legation in Israel has issued a report in which it asserts that 150 synagogues and 89 rabbis are now serving the Hungarian Jewish community and that many famous synagogues are being repaired with state subsidies.

The report, “Hungary’s Jewish Community in 1954.” reviews the situation of the Jews under the pre-war Horthy regime and during the war, and makes reference to Jewish schools, a rabbinical seminary, talmud schools, a Jewish library, and unspecified “social institutions.”
