A total of $250,000 was raised for the United Jewish Appeal here yesterday at a UJA Eastern Seaboard leadership conference.
Yaacov Shimoni, counselor of the Israel Embassy here, declared that tension along Israel’s borders is “basically an outcrop of the absence of preparedness for peace and could be resolved only by peace.” Mr. Shimoni criticized those “who were so eager to condemn and to judge” Israel in the current border situation for their having failed “to suggest a method of dealing effectively with the ever present menace of the war of attrition waged by the Arabs on the frontiers.”
