Jewish Experts Study Austrian Proposals on Claims Payment

Members of the Jewish delegation which is participating in the current talks with the Austrian Government on Jewish claims for damages suffered under the Nazi regime began to study today-together with Austrian officials–the scope of legislation planned by the Austrian Cabinet for compensating individual Nazi victims.

The problems connected with the Jewish request for payment by Austria of a lump-sum to Jewish organizations for heirless and untraceable Jewish property have not come up for discussion yet, it was learned today. It is understood that the Austrian officials are very cool on this matter.

The members of the Jewish delegation who are checking the various documents in connection with the planned legislation on compensation have established, meanwhile, the contemplated legislative changes would improve the situation of only a few needy Austrian Jews abroad while the position of the others would remain unchanged.
