Jordan Indicates Rejection of Johnston Plan; Seeks All-arab Support

The Jordan Government is considering holding a conference of foreign ministers of the Arab states to secure their support of the attitude which Jordan may take toward the Eric Johnston plan for the development of the Jordan River waters. Ambassador Johnston, who is President Eisenhower’s special envoy, is expected in the Middle East by the end of this month.

A cable from Amman received here today says that a government spokesman in Jordan said that his government will reject any discussion with Ambassador Johnston of the project, should he insist on his proposal to establish a dam in the Israel sector of the Jordan River, and on his proposal that Jordan’s share should be 25 percent of the river’s water.
