Israel Greets Sudan’s Independence; Sudan May Join Arab League

(Israel’s Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett has cabled his government’s felicitation to the newly-independent state of Sudan, it was announced today.

From Cairo it was reported that Premier Ismail of Azhari of Sudan today indicated that his newly independent nation will soon join the Arab League alignment against Israel. He said that he and his ministers have agreed that Sudan, an Arab state, must join the League and will do so as soon as the chief of the new state is elected.)

The ruler of Bahrein was reported here today as having issued a decree prohibiting his subjects from trading with Israel. He took this step in connection with Arab League endeavors to prevent oil from Bahrein from reaching the Haifa refinery.
