Progress on two new security projects for Jerusalem–a new road through the corridor and a new reservoir was reported today by the Public Works Department of the Ministry of Labor. The road will run 15 kilometers from Deir-E-Sheikh to Hartuv and is being constructed at a cost of two million pounds. The first four kilometers have already been completed. Before the road is completed, 400,000 cubic meters of rock will have to be blasted out.
The reservoir is being constructed at Bait Vegan at an elevation of more than 2,500 feet and will be able to supply most quarters in the capital without the aid of pumps. Its capacity will be four times that of the Romania reservoir and will be about 90,000 cubic meters. Jerusalems daily water consumption in the summer reaches 18,000 cubic meters.
