A delegation of non-Communist members of the Austrian resistance movement added its voice today to the demands of the Jewish community and other sections of the Austrian people that H. Sanitzer, war criminal released by the Soviet authorities after the concision of the Austrian State Treaty last year, be tried for a number of crimes which were uncovered at the time of his release and subsequently. Thus far, the Austrian authorities have turned a deaf can to all demands for Sanitzer’s prosecution and he remains free.
The resistance fighters’ delegation placed new evidence before officials of the Austrian chancellery that he had committed war crimes against unnamed American soldiers and Austrian citizens. When the Soviet authorities turned Sanitzer over to the Austrians they also handed over a sheaf of documents proving a variety of war crimes against him. In addition Sanitzer was tried in absentia by an Austrian court in 1946 and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
