“There is no panic in Israel, but there is naturally a deep concern about the large flow of Communist and Western arms to the neighboring Arab states,” Dr. Abba Hillel Silver declared here this week-end upon his return from a brief visit to Israel. He reported that there is a “remarkable tempo of dynamism” in Israel and a spirit of confidence in the country’s future.
“I am convinced that the American people will continue to stand by Israel, which is a democratic island in the Middle East,” Dr. Silver stressed. “I am sure that they will continue to aid the courageous people of Israel, morally as well as materially. The Jews of America will not fail to evaluate the urgency of the hour, and will support the new state in all ways, not the least important of which is economic. Through increased purchases of State of Israel bonds they can strengthen the economy of Israel, and thus greatly increase the means of its defense and its security.”
