The population of Israel at the end of 1956 totalled 1,872,390, of whom 250,000 were non-Jews, according to official statistics published today
The data also showed that, starting in 1955, the sex ratios of immigrants, who accounted for 82 percent of the population increase of more than one million Jews since establishment of the state, was reversed, with female immigrants now predominating.
