Five members of the Jewish National Fund in Tunisia were arrested this week-end, causing extreme concern within the Jewish community, it was reported here today. An official statement issued after the arrests, said:
“The attention of the national security (agency) was drawn May 23 to the Jewish National Fund which, without any legal status in Tunisia or authorization whatsoever, is conducting itself as a propaganda agency within the Jewish community.
“This organization, which has its headquarters in Paris and branches in other countries, has delegated agents of other countries to come to collect money apparently to purchase land in Israel.
“The national security (agency) has arrested these agents of the organization in Tunis, Sousse, Sfax and Gabes while in the act of unauthorized collection of money. The money has been seized.”
