A proposal that the Israel Government abandon its practice of publishing an annual list of the names of individuals and companies paying income taxes was put forth here by the man responsible for publishing the document.

Zeef Sharef, the government’s revenue commissioner, said that publication of the list had not paid off in information of income tax evasion. Informers’ reports of evasion, he said, rarely held up under investigation, Mr. Sharef made his proposal at a press conference called in connection with issuance of the third annual list, for incomes reported in 1954-55.
