Central American General Zionists Meet on Confederation Problems

A conference of representatives of the World Confederation of General Zionists in Central American countries opened here today. Present were delegates from Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador and Dominican Republic.

Dr. Israel Goldstein, co-chairman of the World Confederation of General Zionists, addressing the parley, said: “Despite the drains on her resources and energies demanded by the needs of self-defense, despite formidable economic and social problems and heavy personal taxation, the people of Israel forge steadily ahead in reclaiming the land, building up the economy to keep the gates open to tens of thousands of harassed and persecuted Jews still seeking a home and security.”

Dr. A. Fastlich of Mexico, who opened the session, asserted that “the strengthening of ties with Israel, through constructive aid to its development and culture, and close bonds with other Jewish communities in the Diaspora within such a framework as the World Confederation of General Zionists are essential for the preservation of Jewish culture and tradition in these communities. “He declared that Jewish leaders and Zionists throughout Central America “welcome the idea and program of the World Confederation of General Zionists as a constructive way of serving the cause of Israel and the Zionist movement” Dr. J. L. Teller, political secretary of the WZO. will speak tomorrow.
