The national convention of the Mizrachi Women’s Organization today adopted a $1,245,000 budget for child welfare activities in Israel and for youth Aliyah. The convention decided to build a vocational high school for girls in Beersheba and a student house and amphitheater at Bar-Ilan University.

Addressing the convention, Senator Hubert R. Humphrey, of Minnesota, urged the redefinition of America’s policy in the Middle East, and a check by President Eisenhower of “America’s appeasement of the Sputnik nations in the Middle East,” in order to ease the tensions in the area surround in Israel. He was presented with the 1957 America-Israel Friendship Award.

Israel’s Ambassador, Abba Eban, addressing the convention’s opening session, told the assemblage that “few assets of freedom in the Middle East are comparable in strength or constancy with Israel.” Mrs. Lionel Golub, national president of the organization, called in her address for expansion of vocational training programs in Israel’s Negev desert area.
