Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold and the Syrian Foreign Minister, Salah Eddine Bitar, agreed today “on the necessity of reinforcing the authority of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization and of the Mixed Armistice Commission with a view to the effective application of the General Armistice Agreement.”
Announcement of the Hammarskjola-Bitar agreement was made simultaneously here and in Damascus this afternoon after conclusion of a conference held in the Syrian capital between the Secretary General and the Syrian authorities.
