Ort Union Parley Approves Budget of $5,000,000 for 1958

Representatives of ORT committees in 20 countries of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East and the United States endorsed today a record World ORT Union budget of over $5,000,000 to help train 30,000 men woman and young people with a variety of skills in 1958.

Dr. William Haber, president of the Union, reported that in Israel the ORT training program will require considerable enlargement to meet the needs of an anticipated 80,000 immigrants, that in Europe 7,500 Hungarian and Egyptian Jewish refugees would require training assistance and that in North Africa the ORT’s services would be required.

He placed special emphasis on the vocational training program in Poland where Jews repatriated from the Soviet Union must be retrained. The ORT has already opened workshop classes in Wroclaw and Stettin and will set up classes in 14 cities for an anticipated 1,500 students during 1958, Dr. Haber said.
