A proposal to create a commission to investigate war crimes, concentration camp crimes and pogroms against the Jews has been placed before the current meeting at Bad Harzburg of provincial Ministers of Justice. It is expected that the Federal Justice Ministry will back the formation of such a body.

The recommendation follows a recent decision by the West German Supreme Court which, in effect, rejected the jurisdiction of Allied occupation courts in the punishment of German war criminals, and opened up the possibility that all Nazis might be re-tried in West German courts.
