A one-time high functionary in the Nazi party, Karl Krumiseck, was sentenced last night to seven months in prison on charges of libel, defamation of the memory of the dead and condoning Nazi crimes. Krumiseck had declared publicly last April that it was “unfortunate” that “not all the Jews had been gassed” and that it was “imperative to shoot or poison the Jews in Israel.”

Now a prosperous merchant, Krumiseck had offered to pay 1,000 marks to the Herford Jewish community as a “voluntary atonement” if the community would withdraw the charges He told the court that he sincerely regretted the remarks, although he could not remember saying them in detail.
