NEW YORK, (Apr. 5)
Rabbi Joseph H- Lookstein, American religious leader and distinguished educator, has been named the first president of the newly-established International Board of Governors of Bar-Ilan University, a university in Israel founded in 1955 by American citizens, it was announced here today.
The global board of governors was created to be the policy-making body of the university, to give recognition to tie support of citizens of many lands. When its membership is brought to full strength, the board of governors will include representatives of university sponsors from the United States, Canada, Britain, Israel and other countries.
Rabbi Lookstein, a founder and trustee of tie university since its inception, served as chairman of the Academic Council for the past two years. A professor of sociology at Yeshiva University and of homiletics at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, Dr. Look stein is a past president of the Rabbinical Council of America, major Orthodox rabbinical body.
