Jewish Groups in France Urged Not to Approach Khrushchev in Paris

SIGN UP FOR THE JTA DAILY BRIEFING

French Jewish organizations were urged today by the Representative Council of Jews of France against approaches to Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev about the situation of the Jews in the Soviet Union when he arrives for a state visit Wednesday.

The Council was understood to be anxious to avoid a situation developing in France similar to the one which occurred in the United States when the Soviet Premier visited that country last autumn. At that time, there were announcements by certain Jewish organizations that Mr. Khrushchev had agreed to a meeting but it never happened.

It was reported that it was unlikely that any French Jewish organizations or individual would make a direct approach to the Soviet Premier during his visit. The question may, however, be taken up with him by non-Jewish personalities who will be in touch with him during his visit.
