NEW YORK (Aug. 18)
Mahmud Mehran, the Minister of Education of Iran, accompanied by Dr. Fatemi, the Deputy Minister of Education, and several of his top aides, visited last week the Ozar Hatorah annual summer camp in the vicinity of Teheran where some 600 Jewish children spent their vacation time, it was reported here today by the Ozar Hatorah headquarters.
At a special ceremony marking the occasion, Rabbi I. M. Lewi, director of the Ozar Hatorah in Iran, expressed the appreciation of his organization for the interest and cooperation that the Iranian Government has shown for the education of its Jewish citizens and the preservation of their ancient traditions.
The Minister of Education, in reply, expressed hope that other educational institutions in Iran would follow the example of the Ozar Hatorah and likewise organize summer camps for the Iranian youth where the young could relax and spend the hot summer away from the capital and other large cities. Other speakers at the ceremony included Morad Arych, the only Jewish member of the Iranian Parliament and president of the Jewish community, Theodore Feder, the director of the Joint Distribution Committee, and Haj Aziz Elghanayan, prominent leader of Iranian Jewry.
