Twenty-two new Hebrew Day Schools, including 14 primary schools, were opened in the United States for the current academic year, bringing the total of such Orthodox-oriented schools throughout the country to 268, according to a report issued here today by Samuel C. Feuerstein, president of Torah Umesorah, the National Society for Hebrew Day Schools.

The new schools included five junior high schools and three high schools, Mr. Feuerstein said. Most of the 22 new schools represented the first such schools in their communities. He noted that schools are occasionally opened under Orthodox auspices not associated with any reporting agency or central service agency for such schools, but that the 268 total “may be considered a fairly complete one” on the current status of the Orthodox-sponsored day school movement.
