Dr. Richard Lewisohn, discoverer of a blood preservative process which made possible the development of blood banks and the carrying out of blood transfusions without live donors, died here this weekend at the age of 86. Born and educated in Hamburg, Germany, Dr. Lewisohn came to this country in 1907 and joined the staff of Mount Sinai Hospital as a surgeon. He also pioneered techniques in gastrointestinal surgery.
