A baronetcy was included in the New Year’s honors list of Queen Elizabeth Il-issued today for Isaac Wolfson, London Orthodox Jew, for his philanthropic services.
The 64-year-old Jewish leader, who rose from a dollar-a-week clerk in a Glasgow furniture factory to owner of the Great Universal chain of 2, 700 stores and shops through-out Britain, has given away during the last six years nearly $27, 000, 000 for philanthropic purposes. He has also contributed substantial sums to the annual Joint Palestine Appeal and for religious institutions in Israel.
