There are 11,000 students in 105 yeshivot in Israel, Rabbi Zorach Warhaftig, Minister of Religious Affairs, reported here today. Overseas Jewry provides nearly 70 percent of the total 12,000,000-pound ($6,720,000) budget of these theological training schools, he said.
Dr. Warhaftig said his Ministry will seek additional Government support for expansion of yeshivah facilities to provide for the growing number of student applicants. Of the total, of 11,000 yeshivah students, he said, about 400 are from outside Israel.
