Wolfgang Fraenkel, the chief Federal prosecutor, fired last Friday for “political reasons,”because he had served Hitler’s Peoples Court and been a member of the Nazi Party, will receive a monthly pension of 1,633 Deutsch-marks (over $400) for the rest of his life, it was reported here by the Justice Ministry-today. His pension will come into effect, the Ministry said, after he has received three months’ salary as dismissal pay.
Fraenkel, who was elevated to his high post only last March, was suspended 10 days ago, after East German Communists had come here from Leipzig, bringing documentary proof that he had been an assistant prosecutor in Hitler’s Peoples Court during the war. In that capacity, the archives showed, he had participated in advancing to death sentences some cases involving minor offenses.
