President Izhak Ben-Zvi was nominated today by the Mapai Party for re-election for a third term as President of Israel. The Knesset is expected to vote on his re-election shortly after it reassembles for its winter session.

The President, who is 78, succeeded Israel’s first President Chaim Weizmann in 1952 and was re-elected by the Knesset in 1957. Although earlier reported not to have agreed to his re-election, it is understood that he has now indicated his willingness to serve a third term as Israel’s nominal Head od State.
