International Weight Lifting Federation Boycotts Asian Games

A warning from the International Weight lifting Federation to its members to boycott the fourth Asian Games on penalty of suspension was the latest development today in the reactions of the sport world to Indonesia’s barring of an Israeli team from the Games, it was reported here from Jakarta.

Clarence Johnson, president of the weight lifters, said at a meeting of the Asia Weight lifting Federation that the international group would not issue a permit for members to participate in the Asian Games because of the exclusion of Israel and Nationalist China. He said any member who ignored the ban faced a two-year suspension.

Before the weight lifting announcement, the International Amateur Athletic Federation with drew official sanction for the Asian Games.
