Yeshiva University Opens First West Coast Branch; Leon Stitskin is Dean

The West Coast Institute for Jewish Studies, the first branch of Yeshiva University outside its New York City headquarters, was inaugurated last night at the Torah Education Center in Los Angeles. The program opened with some 20 courses in education, religion, history, Hebrew and Bible. The courses will be augmented by a comprehensive lecture series by visiting professors.

Courses initially are being offered in the evening, with two sessions each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, for 15 weeks. Dr. Leon Stitskin, professor of philosophy at Yeshiva University, is serving as acting dean. One of the primary objectives of the new branch, he said, was to ease the critical need for teacher training facilities, to keep pace with the constantly growing Jewish educational system on the West Coast.
