The trial of Franz Muerer, a 51-year-old farmer charged with the murder of 15 Jews in Nazi-occupied Vilna, Poland, between 1941 and 1943, opened here this weekend. His victims included women and children.

Muerer was condemned to 25 years’ imprisonment by the Russians, but they released him after the treaty was signed giving Austria independence. He was arrested in Austria two years ago. A number of Israelis are scheduled to testify during the trial.
